Our Mission

Our Vision

Meet the KHTA Board
We are a group of hiking enthusiasts in the Keweenaw that have volunteered to help fulfill the goals of the KHTA.

Will Weaver
President
Originally from downstate Michigan, I went to school at Michigan Tech and fell in love with the area. After hiking the PCT in 2021 I finally had the opportunity to move back. I love long hikes and backpacking and hope to bring more of that to the Keweenaw!

Carrie Richards
I came from lower Michigan to study Forestry at Michigan Tech and I never left! I have enjoyed hiking and backpacking on the North Country Trail and I have hiked most of the trail from Ironwood to St. Ignace. Each year I've participated in the NCT's Hike 100 challenge. This challenge requires 100 miles each year on the NCT and has brought lots of great hiking and camping memories. This past summer I did my first 5-day backpacking adventure to Isle Royale. It was really hard and amazing too. I would love to go back!
Bob Turner
Hello, my name is Bob Turner and I am a member of KHTA and a resident of Calumet Michigan. I am from North Carolina, and moved here with my wife, Dawn, in 2011. I like the Keweenaw because it has better air quality and fewer people. Hiking with my wife is always a good option for exercise and mental health. I like the idea of new trail construction as well as maintaining existing ones. As a board member, I wish to be a contributor to the actual physical work as well.

Adam Campbell-Olszewski
I am a nature lover. Love to go on hikes and explore new areas that I have not been to before. I prefer hiking over anything else. Professionally, I am a graphic designer, in the nonprofit and environmental sustainability sector. I look forward to bringing more hiking opportunities to the Keweenaw!

Austin Gongos
I first came to the UP to attend Michigan Tech University. I spent 5 years falling in love with the local trails, the natural beauty and remote nature of the area. I have now spent another 5 working and living here as I got more into trail running, backpacking and hiking. I'm beyond excited at the prospect of working toward a goal that would add more hiking and backpacking trails to this wonderful area.

Sydney Harmon
New resident of the Keweenaw Peninsula as of 2022, the Upper Peninsula was where I first discovered my love for the great outdoors when I went on a camping/trail cleaning trip to Tahquamenon Falls in High School. After graduating from Western Michigan University, I decided it was time to move to the place I spent so much time over summer visiting. I am an avid backpacker and trail runner. I enjoy exploring the world with my feet, and I would love to see the Keweenaw’s beauty more accessible to foot traffic!
